Lehigh University CHIN 291 (Lehigh Story: Political and Personal Storytelling) Class/NHI Experience

Economics, Finance and Computer Science undergraduate students were excited to have hands-on experience with Microsoft HoloLens 2 and Apple Vision Pro Mixed Reality Headsets in the NHI Lab as part of their CHIN 291 classroom experience. They observed how NHI Lab researchers and students develop applications to advance data visualization in Materials Science, Engineering, Economics, Education and Museum displays using Augmented Reality(AR) codes on their iPhones as well as headset applications.

M.Eng. Technical Entrepreneurship(TE) Graduate students at Lehigh were welcomed by TE alum/NHI Lab Manager Joan Stanescu to experience the HoloLens 2/Augmented Reality at the Nano Human Interfaces (NHI) lab at Lehigh University.

NHI team highlighted their accomplishments at the I-FMD (Materials Symposium and Open House | Institute for Functional Materials and Devices) poster session.
Each student created their own Augmented Reality presentation, to be viewed using AR codes. Raw data was supplied by Lehigh Professors highlighting their interests and research.
Instructions: Use your smartphone(newer iPhones work best) camera to open the Augmented Reality (AR) Code by pointing the camera at the AR code and clicking on the yellow “Adobe Aero” tab (without downloading any apps.) It is only necessary to give Adobe permission to access your phone (just like accessing a QR code.) Click on the blue “Continue” tab when it appears. To land the image find a flat open area and click the gray dots that appear on your phone covering the flat surface. Once you have anchored the image you can now walk around it viewing from all sides from your phone.
IDEAS students visit to NHI

Undergraduate students from IDEAS program at Lehigh were welcomed by Nano Human Interfaces (NHI) lab manager, Joan Stanescu to experience the Interactive Data Theater™. The students explored accessing the HoloLens 2 Mixed Reality Headset as well as the ALEXA virtual assistant technology, giving ALEXA voice commands.

Lehigh partners with Da Vinci Science Center for ‘Women in Science & Engineering’ days

More than 900 area middle-schoolers participated in two-day event, held in conjunction with Engineers Week 2024, featuring hand-on demos and games led by Lehigh faculty and students. NHI created content showcased at this event included a HoloLens 2 demonstration and AR code displaying structures, like Sodium Chloride (by Leo Chen). See instructions below.

Lehigh University CHIN 298/198(Critical reading and writing in Chinese) Class/NHI Experience

The students from CHIN 298/198 explored accessing the HoloLens 2 Mixed Reality Headset in the NHI Lab. These students were from various backgrounds including Colleges of Business, Arts and Science, and Engineering. This type of smart glasses technology was new to them and many commented on potential future uses in classroom learning and in medical research. In addition, several students expressed strong interest in the ALEXA virtual assistant technology , giving ALEXA voice commands and learning about the NHI Lab.

Professors Raymond Pearson and Lesley Chow and Visiting Scholar Joan Stanescu hosted the Society of Plastics Engineers Palisades-MidAtlantic Section on September 21, 2023, in the NHI's mixed and virtual reality lab in the new Health, Science and Technology Building. The visit included using the HoloLens2 'smart glasses' to imagine and interact with holographic structures.
